Transportation these days are constantly evolving, from once bulky box cars to sleek and streamlined vehicles with powerful engines, to mountain bikes all the way to foldable bikes. Even unicycles too are transformed and today, you can get one in the form of airwheel.
What is Airwheel?
Airwheel is basically a type of unicycle that runs on electricity. If you are familiar with riding a Segway, the airwheel is almost the same except for the fact that it runs on just one wheel, and it doesn’t have any handles for you to hold on to. Unlike traditional unicycles where you need to pedal to make the wheel move, the airwheel makes use of batteries to get it running.
The Pros of Airwheel
What makes the airwheel so great? For starters, it lets you travel from one area to the next without having to walk or pedal. Simply place your feet on the pedals on either side of the airwheel and start rolling. You simply lean forward to move, lean backwards to stop and tilt to either left or right to move in those directions. Another advantage to using the airwheel is that it can be used in areas where bikes are not allowed such as in museums and malls.
What else is there to like about airwheel? It is portable because of its size which means you can bring it with you without having to endure the hassle of bringing your bike with you in your travels. And since it is battery operated, you can simply replace the battery with a new one to continue traveling using your airwheel.
The Cons of Airwheel
Every type of technology introduced in our society today has its disadvantages. In the case of airwheels, although it is convenient for many, it is actually taking the only thing that can help you stay fit, and that is walking. Another downside to owning an airwheel is that it costs a lot. You will need to spend around $1,500 or more for this type of transportation which you could use for other more important things.
Airwheel owners also have to deal with other people who are not used to seeing airwheels being driven on roads, museums, and malls. They can be convenient for you but for others they will have to deal with your sudden breaking or moving to different directions without warning. It doesn’t help even if you’re running at 10 mph.
Is Airwheel Right for You?
Owning an airwheel isn’t that bad at all especially if you want to get to where you are going faster compared to having to walk there. However, you also need to weigh the downsides to using one before you purchase because this is a big investment.
